For work I drive a 1999 Expedition w/ about 200,000 on the clock. I had a long trip to see some customers so I rented a 2008 Explorer--Loaded. I am in love. My personal car is an xterra which I love. I think I may have to go price out a new explorer now. I can't beleive how far they have come!

We just traded a perfectly good 2004 V8 XLT EX (we got crazy and just wanted a new one) for a 2008 XLT V8 with the Ironman package, Sync, and other goodies. While we really liked the 2004, the improvements in the 08 are significant in terms of quiet ride, improved handling and overall function of controls.....they finally moved the door handles to a place you can find them!

At this point, we give the 2008 EX :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Agreed. Also shocking is parking next to an old one. My 08 seems huge in comparison.

This is an 08 Limited, I could never afford one on my own but I think I may try to. One thing bad I can say about it...its S L O W. Is is a 6 cyl but WOW.

Believe it or not it's actually not much slower than yours, but the drive-by-wire system make it extra sluggish in terms of throttle response, hence the slow feeling.

Try this: cruise at 45 mph and then smash it to the floor. You'll see that the 2nd gear pull is actually quite strong, right on par with the older ones.

Off the line it's a dog though...

Man if you guys are looking for a race truck your looking the wrong way. Its a 6,000lb suv. The ford explore is no Ferrari, if you want speed try the ford edge, its faster than a BMW X3, and X5(6cyl).

It's not a racetruck, but makes you wonder with a truckfull of people and a 3500 lbs boat in tow, would it even be safe to merge onto a highway?

I've driven a Nissan Pathfinder and V6 4runner, and they're honestly heads and shoulders above the 4.0 Explorer when it comes to performance. And neither of those are considered a Ferrari...

So why do you own a ford explore if you feel like its too slow? Hey if you don't like the Ford Ex there is probably a Dodge Durango, or a Chevy Trailblazer with your name on it. I mean come on bro, this is a FORD EXPLORER FORUM!!!

Why do I own one? Because there's more to the Explorer than just straight-line speed. I drove both vehicles you mentioned, and the handling, noise+vibrations, and the structural rigidity couldn't compare to the Explorer.

No one said this isn't an Explorer forum, but where does it say we have to cluelessly praise our vehicles despite its problems and shortcomes?

I'll praise it where it is good, and criticize it where it is bad; this is the only way Ford will continue to improve its product in the future...

TRUE, hey while we are on the subject i have a HUGE list of things i do not like about the ex going beond lack of power, fuel economy and the usuall. I wonder myself if i really made the right choice by buying a ford? Japanese cars last so much longer
