Here’s what I did:
Prepped the driver side with a green scrubby pad. It didn’t look like enough, so I did the passenger side with 150 grit sandpaper (just rough up the clear coat and a LITTLE bit of color!!).
I used a roller and did the entire truck minus the roof. Every panel has two coats of roll on. After that, I used spray on stuff to do the fine parts, as well as provide one more coat of protection. The roll on stuff can be sprayed on with a gun, but it requires a ¼” tip. Just a warning: spray in a can type of bed liner is a different texture. For the roof, I just sprayed it on with the canned stuff. I didn’t want to deal with all the changes in height on the roof with a roller.
I bought three different baches of spray in a can and they were three different colors, so I evened out the color with flat black spray paint (not shown in the pics). The wheels, bumper, grille, and trim are all spray paint, though I’d assume that it would work on the bumpers well.
As for durability, the spray on stuff on the roof chips every now and again, but I always keep a can in the truck for touch up. The rolled on stuff has yet to chip. I love it so far, but I haven’t been able to really beat on it off road and test it there (damn transmission went out, I only have reverse for the time being). The little bit of driving I DID do, though, didn’t hurt the truck too much.
I’ll get some more pics of the truck here soon, though.
