It's taken the front driveshaft out and it still makes the noise

The transfer case spins regardless of the shaft being out, so it could still be the t case.

When does it bang? How many miles on it?

Does it bang only when your moving, or also when stopped?
Who told you it was the tcase, a mechanic? And why did they think it’s the tcase?
Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Front, rear, center, left, right?
The more info you give, the better help you can get.

aaa, dammit!!)))

It only happens when I drive , doesn't matter if I'm going straight or turning . It doesn't do it all the time like every so often but when it hangs you can feel it . The guy I bought it from told me it was the transfer case , it has 213,000 on the odometer so I know it will need some work I taught it because I was drawn to it , I can't really tell where the noise is coming from. Any help is appreciated

I had a loud bang or pop in my X for about 3 months before i figured it out, this is a AWD 5.0 96 X i had checked everything over greased everything ect. Greasing told me it was probably not any of the items i could grease becasue it had 0 effect on the noise. I also went as far as spraying lubricant on every joint/ moving part under truck, no change! on day at the ball park my wife was getting in the cargo area and i was by passenger rear tire and it made the pop, I had her get out and bounce the rear bumper just a small bit, i then finally got it narrowed down to the PR leaf spring. Got it home checked everything inder the rear both sides, checked everything was torqued down good and everything was. So i took my floor jack jacked up the hind end to spread the leaf springs apart and soaked the leaf springs in lubricant, let it down, been over a week now and noise is gone. Went on a 2 hour one way trip with it and 0 noise, seems to ride better as well. I do not know if i got a spring out of alignment or somthing just got stuck in there but the noise was driving me insane, on dirt roads it sounds like the truck was going to fall apart it was embaressing in a parking lot, all over some just old sticking leaf springs! truck has 268k on it.

alllright lets start over here

99 explorer
V6 or v8?
How many miles?

The v6 control trac transfer case is known for making a large bang at random times when they wear out
The AWD unit behind the 5.0 v8 can do it too but not nearly as common

My bad i thought it said it was a 5.0l
