When I bought this thing, the ignition lock cylinder was destroyed and the "slider switch" was hanging underneath the steering column.

Well, I've fixed all that and now when I turn the key to run, I hear water running. Almost like that sound when your toilet runs for hours on end, but with more dripping sounds.

Sounds almost like it's coming from the fuel tank but WTF shouldn't the fuel pump prime for like 3 seconds and then STOP??

Is this a common thing or do I need to look further into this issue?

So 20 views and 0 replies is the norm here? Sorry had to ask.

Now I'll bump.

Let me add that I do have a misfire but haven't looked into it much do to lack of time. Maybe this is part of the cause?

The fuel pump pressures the system when you turn the key to the on position. When it reaches the proper pressure, it quits pumping until you start the engine.

Any chance the drain for the A/C evap is plugged and you have water in the fan?

Exactly. Which is why I'm questioning the fuel pump because I heard water running for at least 15 mins while I was working on something else.

I don't even know where that is.

the only noise the fuel pump makes is a slight hum for about 2 secs when you turn the key to the ON position. then it stops, at least on the later models with the return-less fuel system. I don't know if a '96 (with the return type fuel system works the same way). I can't imagine what it is you're hearing from the left rear/center of the truck that sounds like water running. there's nothing there. BTW, you're complaining because you did get any replies at midnight? a little patience will go a long way here. I guess it might be the fuel returning to the tank, but that doesn't usually make any noise. maybe something is not correct with the return line after it enters the tank? at any rate, this may be annoying, but shouldn't pose a problem. the only way to know for sure would be to remove the fuel pump assembly and examine it. kind of a big job unless your curiosity gets the better of you.

Big job? Maybe. I've done it twice before. Only a pain in the ass if the tank is full. I'm at 1/16.

Anyway, I've replaced the battery because the old one was putting out a mere 8.5 V. The noise has disappeared. I've learned I have other electrical issues to deal with, though.
