I live in Europe, and need help with my 2012 Explorer.

Hello ... from Germany !
I have the same problem, I own a 2013 Explorer Sport 3.5L Ecoboost which was imported from the US ..or maybe Canada, b/c it has a kph (km/h) speedo instead the typical US-mph speedo.

I'm sad to say but just taking a European SD-card won't work out.
I took a "F5" SD-Card from a Gen. 4 Mondeo (2007-2014) and put into my 2013 Explorer Sync2 .. but all I got was "insert valid SD-card" ..

Any help also would be highly appreciated ...

Martin, from Germany

As suggested, check to see which MFT version you have. Perhaps that may be the problem as Schimi mentioned.
Good luck.

I'm a little late to this thread, but I have a 2012 XLT in Switzerland that I'm sure went through the same import procedures all US cars do to be legal in Europe (MPH -> KM etc). Depending on how technical and willing to do a bit of work (Forscan etc) you can do most, or all, of your changes yourself. A dealer can surely do some of them too but you'll no doubt pay for them, assuming you can find a dealer here that's good on Explorers (mine are clueless).
  • If you're not on the latest version of the MFT software, you can google around and find the latest version that you can download and put on a USB stick, the system will update itself after that. I never figured out how to make the car "call home" over a EU phone network as it never puts a country code in front of the numbers, so I did it this way. My version was so old that I think it was the first version. In the end I put a Sync 3 unit in my car as I wanted Android Auto, but once upgraded, my old MFT essentially worked fine.
  • EU maps is all about getting a SD card that has the Europe maps. That's all the changing you need to do in terms to get that to function. You can get them on Ebay/Amazon etc. Just be careful as there are fake SD cards on Ebay that do nothing at all. Again, with some minor work, you can do all of this for free (minus cost of a SD card), but that's up to you. I got scammed on an Ebay card and went that route, feeling like I had already paid for it anyway.
  • USA radio frequencies can be changed to EU ones (so that it doesn't skip frequency decimals) with Forscan. As far as I know there's no way to get RDS and EU radio at the same time, so you will lose RDS when changing it. HD radio was never a thing in Europe either as far as my research told me, so you may never see a HD icon on the screen. That said, my radio sounds like all others anyway, HD or not. RDS would've been nice tho.
  • DVD zone I can't help with, as I don't have any DVD players in mine (but back when I had a standard DVD player at home, some of them had ways to make them region free).
If you find a good Ford dealer that can do that for you, all the better, but I'd be surprised if you have any better luck in Luxemburg vs Switzerland.

The website cannot be counted on to be correct. This has been the case for a couple years now.

Like I mentioned, that site is no longer reliable. A few years ago it told me that I was up to date with V3.5 when in fact V3.8 had already been released. I don't think that site is used anymore/ At least it isn't updated.
