I have a 1992 Ford Explorer 4x4 that has an in/op 4x4 selector motor. I took it apart per your web site to clean it up. It looked perfectly fine inside. It still does not work. Does anyone know who rebuilds these things or where I can get a inexpensive one? I need one of these things desperetly. Please email me at shelbydodge@comcast.net

I bet it was clean. Many times the problem is that the bearings dry out causing the motor to draw too much current. I've seen cleaned and lubed motors draw over 4A when it should be under 1A. This causes the controller to go into over current shut down. With the switch gear removed, put a brake lamp in series with one of the motor leads and connect it to a 12V battery. Motor should easily run with the lamp dim. If all you get is a bright light work some tranny fluid into the bearings. Run the motor in with the lamp for about 15 minutes. And no one desperately needs to go into 4WD.

Like Opera House said you need to remove the shift motor and bench test it. Once you get it working you need to cycle it a few times per month to keep the motor from freezing up...
