I just got through replacing my Lifters, Pushrods, Rockers, and all associated gaskets. When I first started the POS is sounded like all was fixed. But once I drove it for about 20 minutes, it went right back to ticking away just like it had before, and then I noticed my Oil pressure all went Bye-Bye. I thought that I needed to change the oil because I had put assembly lube on the parts during the rebuild. I changed the oil and still had the same old ticking. This ticking sounds like metal on metal contact. It changes with the RPM's and it seemes to be on the driver side. I thought possibly it was pinging, but it sound awfully violent for that. Does anyone have a clue? (I have not conducted an oil pressure test yet)

It sounds like there maybe assembly lub in the pushrods galley blocking oil passage. I understand that the oiling capabilities of the assembly is marginal to begin with. I would pull the assembly apart again and check things out.

That lube is designed to melt down basically and I never had a problem with it before. I have heard about the poor lubrication before, it may be time for a high flow pump!

There have been occurences of the oil pump going bad in older OHV engines. My mother-in-laws '91 had one go, and the garage that replaced the engine said they had seen it several times. There is a pressure spring inside the the pump that breaks and doesn't allow the pump to push full pressure, causing "clattering" and eventual destruction of the motor.

Pressure check is DEFINITELY in order.

What motor? I had the 2.9 in my BII, and the head cracked. I determined, after tearing the engine down, that a piece of a breather fell into the oil pan, went into the oil pump due to a rather large hole in the pick up tube screen, got jammed in the gear, and caused the pump to stop turning. The relief spring had broken, and the oil then bypassed the filter, anbd the shaft connecting the oil pump the the distributer sheared, allowing the engine to run, while not turing the pump. I'm not going to lie to you, it is a hard job to replace, but can be done in about a day, providing you do not have to wait on the part.
Good Luck,
Shaun

Thats right JD. I just got a quote from Marshall Engines for a short block for $940.00, 6 months or 8000 miles. I think that I might just go that route.
