The Speedometer in my 02 stopped clocking the speed so i need to get a new one. I just wanted to know if i got any speedometer, would the mileage be the one that was on the cluster or the miles that are on my car? If so i want to find a cluster from a car that has similar mileage. thanks

If i remember right the mileage is in the PCM and not the cluster. If you switch it should show the same mileage that you had.

Theres a long thread on here somewhere about this. Seems like ours is a soldered in eeprom and you would need to take it to a dealer and have the replacement cluster re-programmed to show the difference in mileage.
Had the same problem with a '89 T-Bird.

Had to do an instrument cluster replacement in an 03 Limited at 20,000km. We drove the car away with 0 on the clock and an extra 20,000km of warranty - thanks Ford :)

If you want the mileage reset, I believe it has to be done by the factory exchange center.

I recently enquired about buying a new Mountaineer cluster to swap mine out with and it was more for the core charge than the item itself - Ford wants the old ones back!

yep they fix the broken one, so the one you are paying 300.00 for are refurbished, and you must give them the correct miles so they program it there...

Consider getting a mountaineer cluster.
The gages are white and very nice

Hey Curtis, I want to get hold of a Mountaineer set but I need one that's primarily in Km/h (Canada version?) cause I'm in Oz. Any clues where I could track one down? There's 2 on ebay but they're both mph speedos.

yeah Canada would be your bet then.
Check www.yellowpages.ca for something in Ontario. Try Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Sudbury, London, Windsor

I think you'll find one without a problem but finding a place that will ship it to you could be difficult.

Would be worth it though... I plan to do this with my 04.... funds permitting... daycare is sucking me dry right now...

Shipping isn't a big drama for me as I have friends in Minnesota. I can get stuff shipped to them and then onforwarded to me.

Thanks for the link to yellow pages. Obviously my biggest problem is contacting people. If they don't have email then it's a bit hard.

I definitely want one of those clusters though!

As for you wanting one, there's 2 on ebay at the mo and I think they only want $25 for them. Good luck and thanks again.

Hey, for anyone that has done the cluster switch on an Explorer from a mountaineer, I was wondering about the 4x4 lights. I have an 02 Explorer with 4 high 4 low, and 4 auto. When it's in 4 high it lights up on the dash. When it's in 4 low that also lights up in the dash. When in 4 auto it isn't. My question is about the Mountaineers... weren't they primarily AWD vehicles, and therefor not going to have the 4 high and 4 low lights on the dash? So, if I put it in 4 high or 4 low, it wouldn't light up.... correct? Not the biggest deal, but something I wondered about. Anyone with any experience on the issue?

That is a damn good question !!!

Lets hope someone can shed some light on it...
