I bought this truck almost or over 2 months ago and I haven't been able to register it because the service engine light is on and speedomet doesnt work.
I already took it to some mechanics and spent loads of money on it and they weren't able to fix it. THe truck had short but it wa fixed by a mechanic but not the speedometer. I have to regirtration will be up this august. I already checked all fuses and relays and they are all good and non are missing. They all have proper location and voltage. I already tried 2 drifferent clusters and the speeodmeter still doesnt work. ALso I put in new sensor, the one on the top end of the transmission and the abs on the differential, it still hasn't fixed the problem. I also put in a new computer and it was flashed and programmed by the mechanic and ford dealership. I also rebuilt the transmission, it only has been a few months since I rebuilt it but there is no lead to the problem. On the cluster the ABS light is on and the service engine light is on. I also noticed that the overhead console is out, it had a short and some of the circuits are burned. What can be causing the servicen engine light to turn on. I don't know what to do. Is there anyone who can help me? if so can you tell me what steps besides the ones I already took to take. give me instructions with pics, diagrams, colors, etct if possible.

Yes I did. it turned out to be something easy. the pat is very expensive tho. Those mechanics did not know what they were doing they made me spent money like crazy for no reason..

sorry what is the PAT. my trucks dome lights dont work and speedometer, wipers, and door chime. i think its the gem(generic electric module). what do u think. ive checked all fuses and relays.

also if i get a used gem from the junkyard, do i have to reprogram it, and were exactly is it located.

I meant to say part not pat. Well I would recomend you to pull out all codes. you should also check all relay on the driver side and the one by the battery. after that check if there is or are any shorts and replace any burned cables. then I would recommend to actually check the GEM or just check the GEM to get that out the way. Yes, it might need programming after putting a new or used gem box. So the the guy at the dealership told me. THe module by the passenger side is not the gem. The gem is located on the left hand when you take out the radio. you should be able to see ablack box and should say GEM

ok, first thanks for all ur help. what part did u end up replacing. and i didnt check the relays on the driver side. is there a way to check the gem box to c if its working properly, like can i take it to ford and have them check it. the gem box that i pulled was black, it does not say gem on it, did i pull the rite one. it has a barcode with letters and numbers, last letter is A. and it had two conectors with a bunch of wires. sorry to be a pain but i need to get this fixed its getting to me.

SOrry I did not pull out the gem box as I did not need too. What I ended up replacing was the ABS system(module and pump). I replaced both because it came together. if you buy it at the dealer they will come separate and they are not cheap. I got it from a dismantler. who know you might get it for a good deal (I did). but I also replaced; abs sensors, blower motor,ECU, and some burned cables. but it sounds like you have more than abs problems. your electric is not working? you do need to reprogram after you replace the abc pump or module. You might not get it from dismantler because they dont sll it most of the times because most people return it. THe reason is that after people intall the abs it does not work like it should. It doesnt work like it should because they do not reprogam it after install it. and if you replace the gem, you might need to reprogram it. like I said the gem is located on the center console; just take out the radio and you should say a black box on the left side and it should say gem. THe other on by the passenger ide it says 4x4 somemthing and it only has to do with the transmission and abs...

I think there is a way to check if the gem is bad or not, the mechanic told me had a device or a way to do so but he never showed me because I bought the abs. and it worked after that.

Please tell more of this reprograming, after changing the abc pump or module. My ABS has not worked since ABS motor and block were changed. 2001 st

ABS motor? well I have only seen the abs module and pump which are next to the battery. Also the abs cable are on each wheel hubs and transmission. you should check all abs senors and speed sensors( I did that and they were all good but I got them all new, was not cheap!!) Speed senor is the one that has to do the most with the speeometer. and the abs help. You might want to get your computer checked( since you have multiple thing not working you will got lots of codes, ford dealership did not help at all, they said they could figuire out what was wrong for and extra $400 or $500 jus to check plus parts and labor). For the programming I did not do it my self I took the truck to the mechanic and after two days they game the truck back. I do not know how the programming is done or steps needed.

Ps, when you buy the sensors you might have some trouble finding them you have to take them out show them to whomever is helping you, so you wont have to make multiple trips.. its a pain in butt.

i called ford today, $480 for a dang gem box. it sux. and it needs programming. I asked how much and he said they start at 80 bucks n hour. its insane. im super bummed. hey iwanttoknow. will a used gem box work. i also checked the relays under the driver side dash and they were all ok. wires seemed ok too. only thing thats left is computer and gem box. n e ways can a mechanic find n e thing inside the computer even tho my check engine light isnt on? thnx

oh and i replaced two sensors in my transmission. it was one on the side and the other was on the top. speedometer still the same.

I think a used one might work, but you need to take to a mechanic to get it programmed, just make sure you get it from a sport trac. and yeah you might have to replace the abs assembly, and get it to a mechanic to get it programmed. REmember it will not work and your chek engine light is one or will turn on. this might disappear ones you have programmes everything. but it might be just the gem or the abs because of the speedometer or might be both. I only replaced the abs because only the speedeometer wasnt working. try different dismantlers near you, try calling and ask fo price, also make sure if your sport trac is or not a 4X4 mine is..
