I need help with my 2002 Explorer. It runs hot when I tow.

I have a 2002 4.0 explorer that runs great until i start pulling something then it runs hot. I think its rated to pull around 3500 lbs. I pulled a trailor of mulch and it ran hotter than normal then i pulled a travel tralior that weighed 2600lbs and it got real hot. I unhooked the trailor and drove down the road just fine. Any help would be appreiciated.:exporange

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed, and moved your thread to the towing section. You should add an external cooler. Get the stacked plate design. It's more efficient than the tube & fin design.

try running with O/D off, it will keep the RPM's higher and pump more coolant and trans fluid. . .thus it should run cooler. . .
