Hello All, i need some advise from from anyone who is willing to share it, i have a 96 explorer xlt 2wd v6 and i heard that with a lift and some tires and a locker, they are almost unstoppable. i used to have a 4x4 chevy, but i never really took it anywere too crazy, mainly a little mud, and sand, so my question is it worth the money to invest in a 2wd and lift it etc, or should i just put some nice street tires on it? if anyone has some advise, or anything i appreciate it.

It all depends on how much you will use it, personally I've driven with a few 2 wheel drive nissans that had some BFG Mud Terrains that could get many places I didn't thinkg a 2WD could go. It just takes a little more driving technique and heavier foot.

I think the explorer is better equipped than some of those trucks too, so I think with some nice tires a good lift and even a Limited Slip Differential you will probably be able to get most places that you desire.

Yes, a 2wd with a locker and agressive tires can go a lot of places you wouldn't expect, but they are far from "unstopable". Be perpared to use a lot of momentum to overcome the lack of low range. Also front and rear tow hooks and a good recovery outfit (strap, come-a-long, shovel, jack, etc...) are a MUST.
