guys, i wanna start putting my system together, but im not up to date on new stuff; i havent been in the car audio scene for about 4-5 years. im going with the q-logic 10" hidden box for the trunk (in that little side compartment.) what sub do you guys recommend and what amp should i use to push it. i tend to like the more exotic stuff, but the budget isnt unlimited (i.e.: in my 1st explorer i went with 2 12" jl's in a custom built box with a ppi amp - those were my lows.) i mostly listen to rock music (if youre from NY, mostly KROQ type stuff, if youre from philly, mostly WYSP type stuff), i also listen to some rap/hip hop, but my tastes are predominately rock based. also, i dont need terribly high powered components; id rather have something thats decently powered, but sounds good; sound quality is the goal (and yes, im aware that im only talking about getting a 10" sub.)

also, im pretty set on getting on getting some infinity kappas up front (i dont know if i wanna go with components up front, because then i have to fab up a plate for them, and id rather just throw in a set of 2 or 3 ways, its easier), but does anyone have any other suggestions for fronts that are reasonably priced?...and what amp do you guys think i should push those with?

so to sum up, what 10" sub should i put in the q-logic hidden box? what amp should i get for the sub? what amp should i get for the fronts?

thanks, and sorry this is so long.

Even though it is an expensive sub, I would recomend Polk Audio's MOMO. I had a set of them and I loved them until they got jacked. I just bought a JL Stealth box. I was going to put a Infinity Kappa Perfect in, becuase I have heard someone else's Explorer who had that setup and it sounded really good, but I ran across an extremely good deal on a top of the line Audiobahn. I havn't got it in yet, but will let everyone know how it sounds. As far as amps go, try to match your RMS power with your sub. Try to stick with the more known name brands, as you get what you pay for. Good Luck!

Memphis subwoofers and amps are awesome. you dont hear much about memphis outside of autosound competitions, but they are great subs. they have models available for different price ranges and applications.

hey leenjen, i was thinking about getting a new amp and getting rid of the two I have, what do you think of the Memphis Belle 5 channel amp to run my components and my (2) 12s?

is there much difference between between the q-logic box im looking at and the jl one you have? how much was yours? if theyre pretty much the same, ill get teh cheaper one :)

and, guys, ive noticed that A LOT of people on this site have rockford fosgate amps; ive never been a huge fan of them, but since so many people have them, i figured id ask....what do you guys think of 'em?

Im not sure what the differences are between the JL box and the Q logic, but I think they are about the same. I bought my JL used off Ebay for $100. I think they go about twice that new.

The Q-Logic box fits perfectly where the cargo compartment is, but their grill doesn't fit worth a damn.

hrmm, thats not good ;) ill have to do some more poking around. did i also see that clarion makes a stealth box? anyone know anything about it?

thanks.

How do these speakers compare (and are they at all decent)?

- Infinity Kappa 100.1SE
- Audiobahn AW1000X
- MTX Thunder 6000
- JL Audio 10w3-D2
- Kicker XPL

By the way 10"

that's a great amp. it's a class AB/ class D hybrid. at 4 ohms it's rated at 75X4 and 1100X1. it's the perfect amp for a clean install.

I am also thinking about getting a sub and maybe an amp, but i dont know JACK about car audio, i got kappas in the front and a alpine hu, what kinda sub and power am i gonna need to feel like its hitting decently hard?

at 100x1, can i run two subs off of it? what kinda configuration would I need/use?

I'm nearly 100% sure that the JL Stealthboxes are fiberglass, while Q-Logic uses plastic. I'd personally go for the fiberglass setup, I don't like plastic, hell, even their kickpanels are flimsy pieces of crap (and I have them!)... They have to be reinforced with fiberglass to get 'em right.

i thought q-logic claimed their stealth boxes were fiberglass?

the one i posted about was the Memphis Studio16 ST-1300D.

it is rated 75X4 and 1100X1. with 1100 watts, you could easily power two subs. and it's a class AB/ class D hybrid. the subwoofer channel is stable to 1 ohm mono, so you can hook up a bunch of subs if you wanted to.

Nope, the Q-Logics are vacuum molded plastic (so are the MTX's, I'm pretty sure), whereas the JL's are hand-laid fiberglass.

I hate to tell ya, but the Polk DX subs sound the same as the MOMO's, just without the price and without the pretty MOMO on it. Go listen to both at an audio store if ya don't believe me. Save your money and grab the DX.

I like the way my Mb quarts sound. I have 2 12" mbquarts each in a 1cuft box and they sound really good sometimes too loud for me (im not a fan of rattling car parts) the mbquarts are real effecient subs the one 10" one will probably sound good. as for power i have the alpine mono amp running them its like 150 watts rms and it runs my subs very good i have the gain turned way down and have the filter set at about 70hz and below. the mono amp is pretty small too i have a 4 channel alpine V12 amp running my door speakers and i have never had any trouble with the amps and alpine is sopposed to be one of the better quality manufacturers. i think i picked up the mono amp for about 180 and paid about 175 or so for each sub but you can probably find it for cheaper since you are going with the 10". I would probably go with the midgrade MBq subs just to give you a little more power handleing to make finding an amp easier.

Subs....

Hey guys...for a 10" I'm going to recommend an MTX Thunder 6000. If you can get the right box for it then the sound will be amazingly loud and clear. I had 2 12" MMATs hooked up to a 300watt Crossfire amp and they hooked up one 10" MTX in a ported box to my amp and it was just as loud as the 2 12s. I don't know about the whole cargo net enclosure, I know it would save space but you might be sacrificing better sound. That's all my advice. :) Good luck!!
