hey, im new toe explorer family. i have a 98 xlt, 4.0l sohc. i've done minor front bumper work. 2" class 3 recievers front and rear. custom drop shackles in the rear. and minor crank on the torsion bars. i currently have 33 1250 15 kuhmo kl71s on it but prefer to hit 35's. im looking for techical recommendations on what the best susp. lift is. the only on i have found is from super lift. $2300.00. i want functionalitty. im used doing stuff like lowering my cobra, and engine mods to thier beefy 4.6. any advise is welcome.

Snorkles are stupid. You won't take your explorer through a five foot deep river anyway so don't gay it up. If you really want to look like a retard go to home depot and get some ABS pipe and joints and make one up.

The few times I had to cross deep water on the Fordyce trail in california I disconnected the intake from the airbox so that it would not suck water from the lower air intake point. I had the hood under water for a second or two and luckly made it without a problem.

For the lift. Search for info on an explorer build by a member named jefe. For a while he ran 35"s with a 3" bodylift and a TT (Torsion Twist). Spend a few hundered more bucks and put a locker in the rear axle. Add some sliders under the doors and you will have a decent wheeler. Save up money if you want more and do a solid axle.

Or there was a superlift kit in the forsale section for $600.

Do you want to bash through mud holes, and look super cool in parking lots?

Or do you want a capable trail rig? The superlift kit will lift your vehicle and allow you to fit bigger tires, but it uses drop brackets, so your actual ground clearance gains are negligible.

Stay with the TT/shackles and 33's. Put lockers in the diffs and you'll be good to go for a while. Then save up for a SAS.

There are no snorkel kits for the explorer. Everyone on here with a snorkel is custom.
If i am in water deep enough to come up to my snorkel, i have more to worry about than sucking water into my intake. having a snorkel that goes to the roof is quiet unnecessary. These are 4x4 trucks, not submarines.

i appreciate the info on the snorkle. i planned on putting lockers in the diffs. i still dont know what type to settle with. this is a daily driver. so i dont want a permanent lok. i been looking into air lockers. whats your opinion.
this is new territory for me im used to going as fast as possible in a straight line. not capability off road. i know i have a good start and i would like to make it as capable as possible without going to extreme. its mostly deep mud. not rocks. i m trying to locate a front skid plate the trans lines and a/c condencer hangsso low. a hard enough mud clot or a rock i cant see will tear it apart.any advice on the or will i have to make it my self. this is a budget build so far i only have 1000 invested. 850 of that was tires. not a bad start. would like to maintain that type of budget. i beleive the air locker kit runs 1000 also. looking for strong tips for people that know.
