I pulled the IAC off my '98 Eddie (4.0 SOHC) yesterday, and the "gasket" was shot. It's actually a double O ring that fits into grooves in the intake. O'Reilly wants $5.99 plus $5.00 shipping. The stealership wants $12.99. My question is, has anyone replaced the O rings with a paper gasket? I've got gasket material, and could make my own in a few minutes, but would it work?

i replaced the o-rings when i did mine. but you could always try and report back to us since you would have some experience w/it, ya know. especially if you already have the material.

just make sure there are No obstructions around the holes (i.e. gasket cut to small, hole size wise). i would like to know for future reference.

if i was you i would leave the o-rings there if they are not to bulky and put the gasket over top of them. anywho, let us know if you do it with or w/out success.

I'm planning to clean my factory IAC and MAF with electric parts cleaner. Do I have to replace the gaskets for the IAC or can I use the original ones-if there still good?

If you plan on cleaning the MAF, you should buy MAF cleaner. If the gaskets still good just reuse it. Mine tore but I just put it back on and it's fine.

Banjoes, do not clean your IAC unless you want to buy a new one. Mine was working just fine. But I thought a little preventive maintenance would not hurt, WRONG! Cleaned it with MAF cleaner, reinstalled it, never worked again. Used one from local salvage yard for $12.00, works just fine. I understand others have had the same problem.

You can also seal the IAC with a small bead of
RTV gasket maker. A little goes a long way here.

A thin paper gasket will work fine too.
