totally normal

Hmmm, I think it flashes at 38 degrees.

Yep. It flashes "ICE" anywhere below 38 degrees.

It flashes "ICE" becasue in the low 30's water can freeze and becomes... yep, "ICE!" It's just trying to tell you to be careful as there may be ice on the road.

And stupid me, I start humming the Vanilla Ice song everytime (Ice baby, Ice baby....)

:)

Yeah , remember from science calss. Water freezes at 38 degrese.

Darn, I thought the traction control engaged and since it engaged if just figuered there was ice on the road. Guess my X isn't as smart as I thought it was.

water freezes at 32 degrees

DUH !! I am a retard , you are right.

Haha...Kevin!! Are you ok?? Water freezes at 32. Snow may fall at 38 degrees but it melts when it touches the ground.

The Ice light probably comes on at 38 degrees to provide a safe "accuracy cushion" Ford must think the sensor is accurate to +-6 degrees. Ive thought of testing the accuracy myself, but its not a big enough deal. I would have to be really bored.

Even if the temperature in the air is 38 degrees, ice may still form on bridges and overpasses, as Campo said.

This is due to the wind chill under the road surface lowering the bridge surface to 32 or less degrees.......

Exactly.

Ummm..water freezes at 32 deg F/0 deg C/273Kelvins...not 38 degrees!!

Yes, but even at 38 degrees, there can be ice on the roads. Especially overpasses and bridges.

Out of curiosity, does it become an irritation, or do you learn to ignore it (and therefore it becomes useless). From what I recall of weather in Quebec and if that "ice" message flashes whenever the outside temperature is below 38 F, then that will be flashing all winter long straight with very few breaks. If I had one on mine, I would either have to ignore it, or I would become irritated with it and find some way to disable it.
