I have 1997 Explorer with 40k and 4.0L

When I start it on a cold (0-10) morning it runs fine for about two minutes. Then it starts this fast/ slow idel.
It goes from 1000rpm to 500rpm up and down. It stops doing the idel thing after I drive about two miles?
Has any else had this problem? or where should I look? or is normal?

Thanks

Idle problem

Have you been using Dry gas? If not try it, it may help.

Search for the post regarding Owner Notification Program 00M12. Ford has extended the warranty on the SOHC lower intake manifold O-rings as well as the camshaft tensioners. Leaking o-rings can cause the symptoms you are experiencing. Eventually, it will cause your check engine light to come on. When it shows up it shows up during the colder months of the year when you have 40K-60K on it. If that is the cause of your erratic idle, Ford will replace them for free as well as the tensioners. It showed up on my '97 SOHC about a year ago.
