- 1996 Ford Explorer 2wd 4.
I have a 1996 explorer 4.0, 2wd. I recently had the engine rebuilt from the block up, new fuel lines and all hoses replaced. I have been having problems with it surging and dying when it is in idle. I also have been smelling gas from the engine bay. I replaced the IAC (idle air control valve) and Fuel regulator tonight. The idle is normal it just surges. After i started it back up the idle surging sound is now worse then when i replaced the 2 parts and is also making a occasional low pitch hum. I will post 2 videos of the noise.
