I failed my emissions badly, My carbon monoxide (CO) test was 221.22 with 20.00 allowwed. Basically, using too much gas. Did the basic tune-up things (plugs, wires, oil) not knowing that these things were the LEAST of my problems right now. I've also changed the O2 sensor before I knew that you should check to make sure if it is bad first or you will .05 & .10 yourself to death. I've done alot of reading and have checked many things from suggestion. I have the rough idle 5-600 jump 9-1000, stutter at times from stop, gutless, eats gas so I changed the IAC valve due to many things the same but N_F_G everything still the same, I've read something about making sure the manifold bolts are tight. Well many were loose only to realize that it was the valve cover bolts that were loose, I've asked a few mechanics (they will only touch a wrench during work hours so asking ?s is the same) if the valve cover gaskets (which I knew had a leak & needed to bo replaced but passing emissions is the major priority right now) that had leaks in them could have any effect on my emission being so bad, they SAID NO. Well 11 of the 16 that I could easily get to (get to late to work for where I live) were extremely loose. More than I'd like to admit loose but like my username will tell you how much I know about cars 'If your car don't start, your tire must be flat'. Does the valve cover have any simularity to the manifold or am I reaching for something as my username suggests? I've checked many of (but not all yet) the sensors, MAF TPS ECT & a few more but seem to be getting no-where, I can't really afford to put in a shop since I'm a sinlge father with custody of my daughter. But soon to have no hair left from this soon to be RESERVATION DECORATION.

Did you have the fuel pressure regulator tested? You may want to do a search on FPR. If the pressure is too high you will eat tons of gas. With that much raw gas coming out, you cats might be shot, which will contribute to your high carbon dioxide numbers.

No not yet. also is it a save part to buy from j-ward. So answer is that it doesn't have that much effect on emissions test? Don't have $ just to fix since it bad need truck back on road quickly then can fix bad things unless bad things have to come off to fix emission problem. Also does autozone do the fuel pressure test?

fuel pressure regulator.

What is a good level for the rpms whenjust at an idle?

My ohv (which ran really well, and thats as far as the good points went)ran at just under a 1000. What does that have to do with anything? Is it running rough at idle?

Autozone may test the FPR for you. If not the fuel pressure gauges aren't expensive, and its simple to test the fuel rail.

1st thank you to all 95% fixed. Idle seems to sit about 7-800 rpms, have most my power back, but CEL still comes on, have not checked codes yet but will post later today. THANKS TO ALL AGAIN.

So what was it? Did it pass the emmisions? :)

I was told to change the oil 1st drive for week to pick-out residue and then change oil again then test.

sorry u are having so many probs dude..just be thakefull u dont live in cali =) they probably would have set flame to ur car by now lol

my tracker failed even though it runs prety much perfectly failed by one point somewhere sigh lol

Thanks to all again FPR has fixed my rough idle. CEL has also gone out. 2x checked codes 41 (O2 sensor) is gone but still have 74 (brake on/off) and 77 (wide open throttle not sensed durin self-test) Do I need to be concerned for emission's test? I checked the TPS & was ok (if I did rite). Any ideas from you KNOW-IT-ALLS!!!! LOL!!! Thanks again you guys are great.

74 and 77 are almost always a result of operator error during the KOER test. 74 - BOO switch: computer is looking for you to press on the brake (to activate the brake on/off switch) sometime shortly after engine i.d. code is output. 77 - WOT not sensed...: towards end of KOER test and just before KOER code output, the system sends a signal to ask for the dynamic response or "goose" test. At this point, it expects you to "goose" the throttle (~3/4 to full throttle). Double check your test procedure. If you missed those points, then repeat the test to make sure they go away. If you performed the test as expected, and still got the codes, then diagnose accordingly.
