If you have a 2002 model with a whine read this...

On Ford Truck World a guy took his new Explorer back to the dealer for a whine. Here is what he said:

Problem: Excited about my first SUV, but not sure if the rear end whining noise between 50 and 65mph when pressing on the accelerator is normal for 2002 Explorer XLT with 373 rear-end, V6. Is it? Also, is slight vibration at idle normal? Please help. Thanks

Answer: ANSWER!!
Hello - I took my Explorer back to the dealer with only 2000 miles on it for this problem. They hooked it up to their machines and sent the readout to Ford who said they would replace the entire rearend!! Turns out that the gears are 1/1000 of and inch off and that is what causes the noise. Spread the word to not tolerate any noise coming from the tranny or rearend! Hopefully end of story.

Good ole IRS

rear end noise fixed, not vibration

the rear end was replaced because of the "whine", it was not replaced because of the vibration.

the title of this thread may be a bit misleading.

besides everyone knows explorers NEVER vibrate in any way, form, or fashion!

LOL
