My '94 Explorer ignition cylinder spins 360 degrees. (the "ears")
Is this something that I can fix myself?

Sounds like the ignition cylinder needs replacing. Not too hard, once you figure out exactly how to do it. There should be threads here to help. A new cylinder runs about $15-$20. Now this will make the ignition key different from your door keys, so if you really wanted, you could get new door locks too, but it's much more expensive and a bigger pain. I would just deal with two keys, I have replaced mine and have to.

Couldn't I just buy a "blank" cylinder and have them cut with my current keys at a locksmith?

thanks!

Not that I know of. All of the cylinders I have ever seen for sale come with new keys. It might be possible to bring it to a locksmith and have them re-key it. Come to think of it, it seems someone had this done, but I can't remember if it was a locksmith or the dealer that did it for them.

Edit: Check out This Thread It should help you with this.

Thanks for the lead! I really appreciate it. I just bought a cylinder at Oreilly's.
Wish me luck!
