So, the last few times I went to start my truck, the ignition key wouldn't turn to the run/start position. I tried turning the steering wheel back and forth and it didn't make any difference. I turned the key backwards to the ACC position and then it freed it up so it would turn to the start position. Do y'all think this is indicative of an ignition switch that's about to fail?

The ignition switch and the key tumbler are two different parts. The actual ignition switch is down near the bottom of the steering column, on top of the column. It is possible the moving part of the switch is binding, causing your problem. I would remove the switch, and see if it moves freely.

After I posted I figured there would be a tumbler part and a switch part and either would be replaceable. If it is one or the other I would think I would prefer it to be the switch rather than the tumble part. Hate to have to buy new keys and all.

Did you ever fix this problem im experiencing similar symptoms with my 96 sport

No I didn't. The problem is so sporadic it's not worth my time digging into it and besides, pretty soon I'll have a brand new Chevrolet Pickup and won't have to worry about ever owning another Ford product again.
