I bought a pair of aftermarket fog lamps with blue L.e.d lights in them the other day and installed them late that same night. The next night I was driving through a Wendys drive thru and was stopped by a cop who told me that my lights were illegal, I had no idea of this and quickly apoligized and promised to remove the lights. The officer went to his car and about 5 min later came back to mine with a ticket in hand for 120 dollars with the description (illegal blue lights), I am at a loss for words here I wasnt doing anything wrong and I wasnt even on the street, he could have maybe warned me. The lights were only 60$ and now I am supposed to pay 120$ for 5 min of using them sorry if i may be out of line but F@#k that. I want to fight this ticket but am unsure if it is a losing battle or not. Does anyone know about this dumb MN law Please help I need to know how to fight it.

Just take before and after pictures I guess.. Tell the judge you fixed the problem, and hopefully he'll throw it out and all you have to pay is court fees.

Blue lights are illegal on any non-emergency vehicle. So are red lamps on the front. More and more states are also making green lamps illegal.

I'm sorry to say this, but you should have researched the law first.

Technically though, I don't think he can give you a ticket for lamps on private property.

i don't got blue lights on my Rig but my cuzin was down a few weeks ago and they stoped him at sonic for haveing blue leds so i'm pretty sure you can't have them...it's not the first time i'v heard of this happening... but i'd be really Pi$$ed off if he didn't warn me

I don't know about MN but in PA any ornemental lighting that is not factory equipment is illegal with the exception of fog or driving lights, and any blue lights are illegal unless you are an emergency vehicle.

Does anyone know anything more about the ticket being issued on Wendy's property. Can they actually do that. Is that something I can use in court to help my case I really think the officer was out of line giving me a ticket all he would have had to do is warn me to remove them and they would already be gone

You're gonna have to research about the private property thing.

You could also try removing the lights, taking pictures B&A, and pleading to the judge to just pay a "fixit" fine.

How much is the typical fixit fine

thats bull they can't give a ticket on Wendy's property fight it you should win

They can give you a ticket for being drunk in the Wendy's parking lot so why not for having illegal equipment on your ride?

If someone is commiting a crime on private property... they are just as bustable as they are on a public road.

You might have a case if it was a moving violation... Ha.. cops should give out those ricer tickets for things like this. Everyone would win.

Thanks everyone for your ideas I am considering all of them, I really dont know what I shoud do yet so keep comin with ideas and feeling about this. I just wish the cop would have warned me and made it easier for everyone I wasnt trying to break the law I just thought the lights looked good and I would have taken them off immediatly if he would have had the decency to warn me of there volitility . One other thing I would like to know is how much a fix it ticket is on average in MN thanks everyone

i did research the cops giving you a ticket on private property... if it is private property they cant. but a business falls under a law that is monitered by the city... so basically, if you were on your private driveway, they couldnt touch you, but since it is a business they can...... basically, if it is paved and connected to a public roadway, they can nail you.....

yeah i thought if you weren't driving on a city, state, fed, or county road or highway that you can't get fined, because if your not on the road, then aren't you just using them "FOR SHOW" as they are intended?

i would just take them off, return them, go to court ask for it to be dropped because you did not know and show them pictures and the return reciept from the store.

if the store gives you any crap just tell them they didn't fit, so they wouldn't work.

businesses fall into a whole nother realm of being manadated by the government...... you could try to tell the judge that you didnt know and hope he will be lienient.... was it a fix it ticket or an impersonating an officer ticket? some fixit tickets actally consist of a criminal and vehicular violations.....

vehicle and penal codes go hand and foot....

my question is why did the pig...i mean cop, have to give you a ticket? i'm sure a warning would have done it for ya. with even just a warning they usually take your name and liscence # so if you get caught again you have no excuse. bad piggies

Regarding the Wendy's parking lot thing... I suppose the cop can also make the case that you had to use public roads to get there and you'd be using one to get home :-)

Thanks everyone for your ideas, opinions and help I think I will go with the before and after Idea. To me that just seems like my best bet if anyone has any other I deas I am still open for I deas thanks

im down here in SW minnesota and the cops are real persistant down here too on giving you tickets and confiscating your property, such as some of my friends had there stakeboards taken away for a day because they were skating by a old building....

but now in minnesota that 120$ ticket will end up costing you nearly 200$ because they are now slaping on processing fee's, filing fee's, and fee's to store it in there library, its amazing what minnesota is trying to do to raise its income though tickets

if i would do a thing like that down here...i would probaly get hit w/ it too, though i know most of the local cops really, nearly like friends
