Just wondering, I got mine today and put them in tonight, they look VERY cool. But I wasnt sure if these were legal. You can totally see the license plate and clearly read it, yet its obviously not as bright as it would be with white bulbs. Anyone have an answer?

depends on state and local law... some allow it even though its illegal.. just go ask ur local law enforcement... ask them "hypothetically speaking" lol.. good luck

I was always wondering that myself...till I got pulled over by a rent-a-cop. I was driving around late one night and all of the sudden, rent-a-cop is driving behind me for like 5 mins...and then, his lights went on and he pulled me over. After letting me sit in my car for like 20 mins (I think he had to re-read his manual), he came over and told me that my rear license (blue) plate lights appread green (?!?!). LOL

Since when do rent a cops make traffic stops? They have no more power than Joe Citizen.

The only lights that are "legal" on any car, in any state are as follows:
Front: No less than two clear headlights but no more than 2 high beams and 2 low beams. There must also be a minimum of one amber directional signal per corner as well as one amber side marker per corner (can be contained in single housing). No other lights or colors are legal for opperation on public road ways.
Rear: No less than 2 red tail lights, 2 red brake lights (later model vehicles also required to have a third center mounted red brake light), one red or amber directional signal per corner, as well as one red reflector per corner, one red side marker per corner, some form of clear light that is only luminated when the vehicle is in reverse and one clear licence plate light assembley. Anything else is illegal for use on public roadways.

Now we know that very few places inforce all of theese rules to the book, but anything that varries from the set regulations is just asking for a reason to be pulled over. If you don't mind getting stopped and warned feel free to do whatever you want to your vehicle, but don't complain when it does happen, since your the one that brought it on.

Actually, in Texas at least, the front signal lights and reflectors can be white: Dead Link Removed

Actually, I'm not sure if it says anything about front reflectors (been a while since I've read it, but the front signals can be white or amber or between). I swear I read that 50 times just to be sure I understood...

iugoodfella - It depends on where you are. As said before, check with local and/or state laws. As for the license plate lights, I don't know... Sorry

mr boyles tatement is pretty accurate.... the rear needs to hve white only on the license plate light.... and a security guard ant pull you over! they dont have anymore legal authority than an average person.... ( i am still currently registered as a security guard for the state of ca)

I was going to go with blue, but I figured since I hooked them up to my brake lights/blinkers (two right blink with right blinker n two left blink with left blinker) I juss got the Red ones

I was inside a plantation when the rent-a-cop pulled me over... a plantation is an enclosed housing area...only accessible through security gates...I think he could have called in a real cop..but figured since this was only minor, it wouldnt be worth it...
