I have 31' with no modifications and no rubbing. They fit on some explorers, and not on others. I don't know what the difference is. Dead Link Removed If you can't fit the 31s then get a body lift and 33s. Dead Link Removed

i'm not sure that the crummy 4.0 engine is really meant to pull 33 inch tires...although a body lift with 33's has been considered by me before. dont have the cash flow right now really...thanks for your info!

You could probably fit 33" tires with a 3" body lift. I have 33's on mine with a cheapo lift kit that uses the stock bump stops... fully compressed it barely fits. I had to trim the fenders a little on the back edge but other than that it works fine... check it out at Dead Link Removed

pudge11,
If you go with 33's, make sure that your gears will turn them. Anything less than 4.10's will have power loss bad.

I've got 31's with the 2" skyjacker springs in front and air shocks back, and they still rub sometimes. The tires hit the tops of the inner fenders when fully compressed on the ass end. The fronts rub every now and then at full turn when twisted up or when landing hard. They are fine on the street, but are all chewed up from the trail. I'd bet that any stock 1st generation Explorer with 31's would rub when pushed hard enough.

The SX swampers run smaller than most tires. I had 32" SX's under mine with no extra problems for a while. They just sucked on the road. 32" BFG's don't fit at all.
