I am going to have to replace my battery this weekend, it won't hold a charge, just interested in the opinions of others on which brand is better, and why. I have a 140 amp alt., and would like to get a good battery, anyone have the optima battery? I do not have many acc. now, but will be installing off road lights later.

Well, I tried an Optima red and it didn't work well for me. I just use Autozone or Walmart batteries. If you monitor the battery fluid level and any corrosion every few months, normal batteries are just fine. I always get the most powerful battery for the size.

Optima batteries seem like a pretty big rip off to me. You can go to an auto parts store and get their most expensive "regular" battery and have alot more power than the optima for much cheaper.

I have a red and I think it's great. I run a lot of Neon crap and have to problems with it.

I ran an optima in my explorer for a while, not the best battery in the world IMHO, it was neat that it was sealed and all, and if I was running tow it probably would have been better... in my F-150 with about the same amount of electrical accessories as my Explorer (except teh winch) I've had the stock battery for about 3 years and not a problem yet. (I should say I've had it for two years but its 3 years old, LOL)

batteries

In my recent Consumer Reports they had a test on batteries. Sears Die-Hard Gold came out on top in every battery size catagory. Also, return policy is second to none in my personal experience. They run $79.00 here in the Dallas area.

I had the stock battery in

when I installed my lights and winch..... I think that as bad as the battery was..... the lights and winch use just about killed it... A friend of mine who was selling his truck gave me the Yellow Top Optima out of it...... I never ahd problems with it at all....the best part of the Optima...it will not die when you are rubber side up!!!

What he said... and i like my yellow top alot more than my red top

I have to agree with "mosinman", the Sears Die-Hard Gold is tops. I have owend many vehicles, and have ALWAYS put Diehard batteries in them, and never had a bad one, in fact my Diehards were in the cars when I got rid of them.

When my factory installed MotorCraft battery finally goes bellyup, I will install yet another Diehard (Gold) battery in my X. Delco, also makes a VERY good battery, the one in my Caddy, lasted 9 years! Replaced it with another Delco. (Expensive).

Wow, lots of opinions out there. I appreciate the response, had a feeling that optima was over rated. I think after reading the post, I will probably go with the die-hard, although I have run walmart batteries, and never had a problem with them.
Thanks to everyone that responded.:)

update

Decided to side with Alec on this and opted for Advanced auto's titanium battery 69.99, supposed to have 1000 cold cranking amps, should be good for me.:D Thanks again everybody

:D

Good luck with it.

Go with the Sears Diehard. Best performance and durability for the money.
