Hi, I'm Jerry and I'm new to Explorers. I fool with older cars a lot but I'll admit I'm a little lost on electronic engine controls.

That being said, I just bought a 94 Explorer that has been sitting for a year or so. I put fresh gas in it and after changing the starter solenoid it started right up. The engine doesn't seem to hold a steady rpm. Even trying to hold it at part throttle it continues to search and never really settle in. Should probably mention that it ran fine when parked. I know the lady I bought it from and she would tell me if there were issues.

I removed and cleaned the MAF and that seemed to help a little but still not really right.

trying not to waste a lot of time and money on this so any help is much appreciated!

Thanks!

check for vacuum leaks, clean the idle air control valve, check the voltage on the TPS

I agree- if it's been sitting, the IAC could be gummed or sticking, as well as something may have chewed a hole in a vac line... Probably needs a good once through...
