Can anyone point me toward a scanner that won't require a bank loan? I did a search, and most info is pretty old, so I thought maybe the prices have gone down, or more models are on the market by now.

I don't have a laptop, nor a Palm Pilot, but if necessary I could buy one if the combined prices (scanner+computer) were cheaper.

It would be nice to be able to read the airbag and brake info, but if the cost is out of range I'll make do with just the powertrain.

Thanks.
Don

Mine was $140 at Autozone.

Thanks Glacier. I should have posted this thread with yours. That's a lot of good information; now I'm more confused than ever......I just talked with my daughter, and she has a Palm Pilot I can borrow. That opens up more possibilities.

Alec, what does yours do? Will it read engine data as well as DTC's? There's an AutoZone 10 minutes away from me.

These scanners are very intriguing. Gotta have one.......!

Mine basically just reads codes.
