Greetings - I've got a '06 Explorer with 150K miles on the V8. Getting engine misfires under load so I suspect one or more of the COPs is going. But, there's no check engine light. I haven't hooked it up to a scanner so I don't even know if there's a code. The local autozone guys say that their scanner won't detect anything unless the CE light is on.

Can anyone recommend a scanner that will detect which cylinder is misfiring? Preferably one that won't break the bank.

Thanks.

Welcome to this forum! I'm sure that most scanners could read a misfire code. A lot can't read manufacturer specific transmission codes, ABS or SRS codes.

BroolynBay, thanks - the problem is, since there's no CE light, I don't think I'm guaranteed a code at all. So I'm looking for a scanner that will dynamically detect a misfire vs just reading the codes. Something that does what the $5000 scanner the dealer has does, for less. Like $4900 less :)
