Well when I bought my Explorer it was to be my daily driver and not modified at all as thats what my Probe is for(I dont need 2 money pits). I resisted for about 6 months but the first modifications happened this past week. I bought a used 40Gig Ipod a couple months and really havent used it as much as I thought I would so I figured out a way to hardwire it to the stock system on a switch with the CD changer and I tried to make a plug and play holder that looks OEM. Total cost was about $8 for paint, a stereo plug, and fiberglass supplies I already had.

I also had subbox with 2 12s and an amp that I got in a Probe I bought for $250. I dont think are anything special or worth selling so I decided to put them in the Explorer. Total cost was $25 to recover the box and buy a line converter. The Probe had all the RCAs, wiring and fuses I needed. I guess the amp isnt powerful enough for the subs cause I cant turn it up to loud or the subs die after a couple hits(maybe I need a capacitor) but this is a low budget project and its better than before so I'll live with it.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how everthing turned out. One of a kind and a clean install overall and 3,500+ songs at my fingertips(on an Ipod thats not half full). Comments?

sweet it does look factory. whats the switch for?

The switch is needed to turn the signal the CD changer sends off. Otherwise both the changer and Ipod send a signal to the headunit which just doesnt work. When the Ipod is not in the factory cd changer is still operational which was one of my goals.

Nice, real clean fiberglass look. That's a skill I really need to look into.
