I've got a '91 and a '94 EB Explorer. To put a new CD player in the '91 I had to pull off the dash to get the old CD player out. The '94 I know you don't have to do that, but will it look funny with a new one sticking out of the dash or is the hole bigger on the '94s? If anyone has pictures of aftermarket CD players in their '94s (maybe '93s are the same) I'd love to see them. Thanks.

If I remember right, '91 and '92 Explorer radios used a DIN size radio with a flange on it, making the radio faceplate 64mm high by 192mm wide. This radio would mount directly into the Instrument Panel (I/P) substrate. A trim panel was the installed in front of the radio, which typically had a 57mmX180mm opening in it.

For 1993, the trim panel was modified to accept the radio mounting. This allowed the use of the rounded corner faceplate, with the more traditional DIN size of 60mmHigh X 188Wide. So, in effect, the opening (in the trim panel) for '93-94 is a little larger than the earlier models.

In 1995, the Explorer went to the 100mm high faceplate design (a little more than 1.5xDIN), and distributed architecture for Premium model radios.
