There's a lot of info. here on how to install a overhead console in a older Explorer, but how about installng a console out of a '98 Explorer into a '98 Explorer that didn't come originally equipped with one?

Would all of the connectors and wiring harness be present, or would I have to purchase / fabricate them.

Thanks.

I installed a console in my 95 Explorer that did not come equipped with one. The wiring harness and the bracket you need to have will not be in the roof already. You will have to buy the wiring harness and the bracket for a truck without a sunroof. You can find the wiring harness in a wrecked Explorer in a junkyard. And you can get the bracket from Torrie at www.fordpartsnetwork.com for about 10 bucks. That's just what I did. Torrie may also be able to get you the wiring harness if you don't want to scour a junkyard for a harness. But that's probably where you'll have to go to get the console anyway. But sometimes you can find one on Ebay...which is where I bought mine after I had no luck in a junkyard. Good luck to you!

Thanks for the info. Is there a plug underneath the dash for the wiring harness, or will I have to do some splicing?

The wiring harness you need will have a plug on one end that plugs into the overhead console, but all the wires will need to be spliced into their appropriate wires already in the truck. This thread should help you to understand what is involved.

And here is your wiring diagram: http://www.rangerpowersports.com/tech/eocwiring.shtml
all the colors match exacxtly with Explorers.

Well, I've given you a lot to read, but those links should answer all of your questions. If they don't, then feel free to ask more, or try a search on "console," or on "overhead" and you'll get plenty of results. Hope this helps!!
