Is there a simple way to remove the old fluid from steering pump hoses and steering box before I install the new pump?

Generally you would do it after you installed the pump. You would put fresh fluid in the new pump and connect the pressure hose to the new pump but place the return line in an empty bottle. Just run the pump and keep adding new fluid until the fluid is clean. I guess you could do that with the old pump connected.

A hand suction pump but most people probably don't have one handy. You can use a Turkey Bastor to suck out the old oil.

Just a tip in case someone doesn't know. These use Type F transmission fluid in the power steering. My pump was really loud and it had normal power steering fluid in it so I flushed it for the Type F and now it is much quieter. Still pretty noisy but not near as bad as it was.

I've often wondered about this. My reman pump was pretty quiet when I got it but I put in Dex/Merc ATF since that's what I had on hand and it's slowly gotten noisier. Not noisy like the one I replaced but noisy enough to be disappointing. I've been thinking about adding a filter or cooler (or both) and at the same time, flushing out the fluid to Type F.
