How do you bypass that factory amplifier after installing an after market head unit. Or does anyone know the wiring schemes. This is for a 96 explorer sport. Thanks for your help.

Your best bet is to get a bypass harness. IMO the best one is from Crutchfield. It comes with very good instructions and is inexpensive (free if you get the HU from them).

And I'd do this before installing your new HU as it mates up with most aftermarket HU harnesses well, and you need to wire behind the radio anyway. Also, running your stock speakers (or other speakers for that matter) off the new HU and the factory amp could damage them.

Good luck!

Alec, so you're saying that using the Scosche Factory Amp Interface is bad, since it hooks the deck to the stock amp?
Out of curiousity... how is this bad, and how would it damage the speakers?
I just installed a JVC KD-LH2000 in my Sploder, and I used that amp interface. I just got finished installing it and testing it out, and it sounded great.

If it sounds good, dont mess with it ;)
I used an interface with mine for a long time, was pleased with the results, but then one day got bored and bypassed the factory amp, I didnt really notice a whole lot of difference. When I got my new deck I ran all new 14 guage speaker wire to each speaker directly from the HU. Good luck...

BTW, I have an inteface, that has gains for each of the 4 channels, if someone wants it ill take $25 plus shipping, cost $50 new.

I tried that and it doesnt work. Any other thoughts?

When you replace the factory HU you have to make sure ou still have the 12 v trigger lead going to the factory amp.

Here is a link to my notes of which wires i spliced together to bypass amp.

My 94 cassette deck died. I yanked it to replace with Pioneer aftermarket. But speakers don't work; I get no continuity even with ohmmeter on any pair I choose of the 8 wires ganged from the old plug. Then I find this thread about having to bypass an amp? No, I can't use a bypass harness, as wires are already cut (although I charted them by color-code before cutting). Your old post from 09/2002 contains a link to a wiresplice diagram, but that link doesn't work now. I'd really rather not have to run new wiring to all four doors, and, if there's a way, please help.
