Ron- honestly- those things are hotcakes. Keep an eye out on ebay, they don't last long...
You may have some repinning to do, and make sure if you have a 4x4 Ex, that the cluster is from a 4x4 truck, or you won't have an indicator any more...
The temp gauge will not work. You will need to take the servo from your '96 and put it in the '01. I speak from experience. I had my speedometer go bad in my '97. I put a cluster from a '95 in and my temp gauge stopped working.
Ford used different resistor configurations & locations on the temp gauge. I don't know if this applies to the fuel, temp & volt gauge.
The lights in the early Gen 2 Ex's are in different places than on the 01 cluster. For example, the fuel cap light glows when I open the doors. The CEL doesn't work, because the pin is in a different location.
The 4x4 thing won't be a problem, it just won't illuminate, so no biggie.
There is a repin thread on the cluster... I also had to change some of the gauges on my '95 cluster as the later Gen 2 gauges didn't have the proper resistor causing them to peg. Easy fix though...
