does any one have step by step on how to change an intake manifold gasket? Need help desperately i am mechanically inclined but have never done any engine work. The truck has been randomly losing power mainly on the thruway, ill push down on the peddle a little bit to speed up and the truck will slow until i get to about 30-35. Shut the truck off and start it up and then its fine until the next time... if you think it could be any thing other then the gasket PLEASE let me know

I doubt it's the intake gaskets, I don't think the 5.0s had intake gasket trouble. Sounds like a fuel problem or maybe bad MAF sensor. Just throwing those out there but without more details it's hard to point you in the right direction. Any engine codes??

it had 4 egr valve, o2 censer, cat, oxygen censer came up for trouble shoot and the guy at auto zone said they were known for bad manifold gaskets but i would be happy if i didn't have to take my motor apart. i do not deprive my vehicles. i just bought it... had to throw that out their

i would say NOT gaskets...but for next time, the gaskets are very easy. I was same way, mechanically inclined but no previous engine work...I tackled this and it was fairly easy (altho time consuming first time due to being unsure)

did your engine throw any codes?

go to auto zone or similar and get them to read your codes and get back to us

it showed codes for egr valve o2 censer. i punched a pole threw the cat and now its running a lot stronger acceleration is much better. i haven't gone on the threw way yet but i did get it to 75 on my street and didn't loose any power hopefully it was just the cat... thanks

I would say a clogged cat. I had a chevy pickup years ago and I could be going down the interstate and it would lose power and quit. Leave it sitting for a while and it would start back up. I finally replaced the cat and it fixed it.

well it wasn't the cat it started bogging out today on the thruway. Im going to try the fuel pump next

Hate to hear that, would have been an easy fix. Let us know how you make out with it and what you determine it is.

You should probably do some diagnostics before throwing parts in it. Post the engine codes up here and before you go replacing the fuel pump you might want to check the fuel presseure and even try replacing the fuel filter first.

first thing i changed was the fuel filter.. trouble shooting codes are p0171, p0174, p0153, p0402

Lean codes on both sides and bogging could be a dirty/bad maf.
p0402 is excessive egr flow(either a bad dpfe/egr or the vacuum leak causing your issues).
