Intake manifold gaskets

I have a 2000 Eddie Bauer with sohc 4.0 liter and I need to change the intake manifold gaskets I have one quick question. My Haynes manual says in order to get to the intake manifold off I need to remove the valve covers and the cooling fan and fan shroud but all the post I've read on this repair using the search function never said anything about removing those items so my question is do I need to remove the valve covers and cooling fan and fan shroud in order to change the intake manifold gaskets? Thanks in advanced

i dont know why it says that.. you defiantly dont have to take that stuff off. lower is a bit of a beeyatch to get out but doable.

just the opposite

On your 2nd generation SOHC V6 you have to remove the upper intake manifold in order to remove the valve covers and that's what my Haynes manual states. It follows that with removing the valve covers and the cooling fan and shroud in order to remove the lower intake manifold. I don't know why because it's not necessary.
