Was considering getting either an Ifab or KKM Intake for my 1991 X. The Ifab Includes the tube as well as the cone air filter, where as the KKM is only the Cone Filter. Which one would you guys suggest? Also if any of you guys have had any experience with either could you please post it here.

If there is also a different intake you suggest for a 1991 X let me know.

Thanks, Derek

KKM is fine, the iFab is really just for looks, won't make much of a difference.

If you are looking to continue modifying your explorer go with the ifab, if its a metal pipe it comes with. the reason being the stock rubber pipe "shrinks" when you push on the throttle. the pipe condenses when you stomp on the gas restricting air flow.... the metal pipe does not condense. does this make any sense? its hard to put in words... the metal pipe makes for better performance not just looks....

Well, I've heard that the metal pipes heat up easier than the stock plastic. I guess it depends on if your going for bling or performance...

yeah, i always thought that a metal intake tube would transfer heat from the engine more than a plastic tube. that's why i went with the k&n fipk instead of the mac intake.

Hola R
With your Scangauge lets do a test, aldive and I did this last week, I have a MAC intake, metal tube, At 70MPH the FIA is about 4 degrees over ambiant.
At Idle, with the coolant temp at 193, ambiant at 90, the IAT is 134, als was the same as mine, let me know, might be able to dispell a potential myth

My metal tube gets hotter than the stock one. I never heard anything about the stock pipe condensing when you press the throttle.

where can i buy a kmm at

that's a hell of an idea. i will be taking down some numbers as soon as i get out of work today. i'll PM you (spindlecone) as well as post back what i get on this thread.

This could be interesting, i have been trying to lower intake air temp since the day I installed my open intake, since I have been able to measure that internal temp via the OBD11 port I have found the following: my fresh air inlet fabbed from two inch shop vac hose via the smog light hole, has O effect on intake temps, thus so called cowl induction would also be useless IMO.
I insulated the metal pipe on my mac yesterday with R12 foil wrap, the internal temp was 40 degrees higher than without insulation.
Next is going to be a recirculating waterjacket program, may sound stupid but the goal is to get Internal intake temps at no more than 10 degs above ambiant at any speed below 70 MPH, I think the benifits at low end would be tremendous
