So, here's what I found on eBay:
Intake on eBay from 1991 Explorer

I probably need to find one that's for my year Explorer, but what about buying this and sending it to get ported?.... Which is the bigger benefit of those (tough to find) after market heads for my V6: light weight aluminum, or bigger volume? Is this way too much effort for the costs involved?

Just wondering.

The intake is aluminum and will only take a couple of hrs to P/P, which means that you can do it yourself. However, it wont do much good if you dont do the heads also. Plus, when you think your done, mount the intake to compare the fit-up with the heads to ensure everyting mates up in the runners. I purchased a P&P kit for $30 and did my own intake but had the heads done by a Pro. Good luck
