So I have a question and it may seem stupid. My ex is a v6 and I was wondering if getting an air intake would change my performance very much. I wouldn't mind a little more speed thats why I ask. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Guys.

Air intake kits provide more of a psychological performance gain than anything. It sounds different. You may notice some performance gain, but it's not as big as the sellers of these kits lead to believe. Marry it up with an upgraded exhaust and some custom tuning and you'll notice more, IMHO.

Yes, getting rid of the restrictive air box will improve overall performance. How much depends on the type of system you integrate. There are multiple systems out there for the V6....Volant, K&N, KKM just to name some. There are also DIY solutions to make your own.

Overall you will gain some HP and Torque, which is pretty common with any engine application.

I thought about that too but how would an exhaust sound with a v6?

for you it aint happening...

04-05's do not have an intake kit for them because ford redesigned the factory intake...

K&N part no. 33-2207 ( filter )

bottom of the factory airbox, remove the silencer, and drill holes in the box... better sound and a small amount of HP / TQ gains...

thats what i have right now... spent 54$ and about 30 minutes of my time...

Potroast, you mentioned some DIY intake ideas. Can you tell us something for a 02?

STU

simple cone filter with a MAF adapter... or KKM...

is the simplest application... or buy a cone filter, MAF adapter, and some pipe and couplers...

easiest thing i can think of...

So caldwell do i just need to buy that filter? could you give m a few more details on how to do this mod? My areas of knowledge in the auto world only go as far as audio upgrades lol

You'll have MUCH better success at getting the info you require if you roll up your sleeves and use one or both of the site's search engines to scour the archives. The generic questions you're asking have been asked countless times.

It's Forum Etiquette 101.

Sorry to sound like a jerk (I'm good at that), but you'll be much more satisfied in the end if you do your own groundwork and then ask the "tough questions" that don't get answered in your travels.

Good luck.

MAC intakes claim large performance gains.

MAC are a step up from anything but they only give you a 10hp gain at the most.

i have a v6, straight piped with an custom intake and it sounds great but you arent getting much horse power.

stuart that filter is just going to replace you're stock one giving you more airflow but its not doing much of anything else.

" 04monster - stuart that filter is just going to replace you're stock one giving you more airflow... "

more airflow means more power ya silly noodle

even if its a cone filter, its still less restrictive then the factory airbox...

04 monster could you get into some detail about your system that your running? straight pipes and a custom intake on a v6. thats something i want to look into i want to hear some sort of roar. that sounds like a nice set up. how does it sound and perform?
