I have a 00 sport and want to get an intake and exhaust . I have a few questions cause I have never modified any of my vehicles before .

1. What are the pluses to adding them?

2. What type, brand does most of you have ?

3. Whats the average price I should be looking at .

4. How hard is the intake to change .

Thansk in advance for the info .

Well for the intake the saying goes "more air=more power" cause the stock intake is restrictive to say the least and the intake is very easy to change depending on if you get a system or just like a KKM type adapter/filter, is your engine a OHV or SOHC? an intake will give you better throttle response and maybe give you some more ponies but an intake and exhaust is the best places to start than a chip and maybe some other little mods. intake system can range from 100 to upper 200 dolla range and the exhaust is pretty much the same depending. i dont have a 2000 sport so i cant talk about good brands but K&N, Volant, Flowmaster, Gibson, SCT for a chip are all good brands.

Good luck.

(1) Increased response and performance, some improvements in mpg (but mine got worse because I drive harder now).

(2) Intakes: MAC, KKM, K&N, Volant, Exhaust: Flowmaster are very popular (I have the SUV 50 Series on my 2000 Sport)

(3) Prices vary wildly. Use Google/eBay to see what's out there. On the intake front, KKM is cheapest, followed by MAC, K&N and Volant. Exhaust really depends on what you want done. Some people just change the muffler. Others get new piping from the cats back. Some install themselves, some get a shop to do it.

(4) Intakes are relatively simple to install.

This topic gets discussed a LOT on this site. Try the SEARCH feature to see past discussions. Once you do the intake and exhaust, consider a custom SCT chip or flasher to tie it all together. "Bamachips" and "Hypnotic Illusions" are two most excellent programmers that frequent this site and are also sponsors of the site. Both are great to deal with and will tailor a program to your needs. You'll see "Apten" mentioned a lot. They used to be the programmer of choice but their service has gone in the tank since the key guy at the company left to work with Superchips (SCT) directly.

Flowmaster works

On my 94xlt I installed a Flowmaster cat back exhaust and found it easy to do and well worth the cost. Sounds great and feels like considerably more power as well, It doesn't need to downshift as often on hills and still pulls harder. :burnout:

I can echo what Celly said.
Since we have very simular set up in our 2000 Sports.

I have the MAC intake. It is georgous. ( www.explorerexpress.com )
It did take some TLC to install correctly, but nothing that had me cussing.

Intake and Exhaust are two of the most affordable mod with very significant results.

If you plan on buying the MAC you might wanna save yourself like 4$+s/h if you buy it from this guy (MAC Intake on Ebay.com) this is were i bought mine and it was shipped very fast and saved like 15$ all together on shipping.

OR you can support one of the sponcers of the web site :)
