Interchangeable parts for different years?

My 1999 mountaineer (V8, AWD) broken into a few weeks ago and area around the radio, the trim bezel with the knobs was taken along with other things in the car.

Im looking for the parts to replace it the radio trim bezel. Its not going so well.

My question is what year of vehicle is interchangeable for parts with my 1999?

I saw a 1998 that look fairly familar on ebay but I dont want to buy the item unless I know for sure.

1995 to 2001 are all the same. Just make sure the trim piece for around the radio as frm AWD or 2wd. Otherwise you will have the switch for the transfer.

The only small change was the seat belt latch. It changed in '98.

Some don't have a fog lamp switch on them.

After I read the second post I went on eBay and found one that was in acceptable shape with the right knobs for $25 plus $7 shipping.

I think I am still missing the metal case that holds the radio in though any ideas?

How would I go about finding this out about my Ford Explorer? Is there a website or ?? I have a 2003 Ford Explorer and a friend is selling a crashed, but still runs 2008 Ford Explorer for $200. I was hoping to salvage the engine and possibly other parts if the two are compatible. Thank you for time.

This is the 1996 -- 2001 section but if you are talking about salvaging a 4.0 SOHC out of a later model, it should swap with little issues. mostly wiring, fuel lines, and emission items. but as long as you use the wiring from the 2003 and swap the necessary "dressings" a 4.0 sohc is a 4.0 sohc. the base engine underneath remains unchanged.
