Sometimes my engine wont start on the first try. On the second try it fires right up. I recently replaced the IAC and the EGR and did all of the routine maintenance. Since its an intermitant problem Im having trouble trying to troubleshooting it.

Static fuel pressure seems okay. The fuel pressure regulator looks new. it runs perfect. It drives me crazy thinking about. Could it be a quirky relay, something like a bad gas cap or an alarm cut-off issue. Its a 95 5.0 rwd.:navajo:

I just had the same problem. Replaced the relays under the hood and the problem went away. Since they were only $10 each I went ahead and replaced all three. Good luck

Thank you fenderbender thats going to save me a lot of time and money in troubleshooting. I didn't want to burn op my starter in the process either. I'll try it in the morning.

which relays?

Fenderbender2002,

Which relays did you replace?

FTM

Fuel pump and pcm. Somehow this thread entered twice. There is more info on the duplicate.

:us:Robertoa1a,

Sorry for the confusion, but I went on RockAuto.com for pricing the parts. I see the fuel pump relay, but what my Haynes manual calls the PCM is what RockAuto calls the ECM (engine control module) at $200+. You mentioned three relays earlier and responded with the fuel pump one, and the PCM. Am I looking at the wrong portion of the book and also, what is the third one you replaced. You seem to be the farthest down the road in solving this problem so sorry to keep on this.

Also, I went to the duplicate link which has great ideas but doesn't address in detail, the relay issue.

Thanks again for the help.

Sorry, should have addressed the previous post to Fenderbender. My apologies.

My intent was to replace three relays but I didn't see much point in the third since I think it's for the winshield wipers. Other people have more serious problems. but this one just has me stumped. It makes no since. For a hobbiest I'm a fair mechanic. Keep throwing ideas.:navajo:

Okay FTM I can see where you got confused.
