Hi all- I know there are a lot of threads on this, but my issue seems a bit different.A few months ago I changed the front outside axle tube seal on my 2002 sport trac with only 70,000 original miles. No biggie, but before that, I never had any issues with an abs light going on. Now, sometimes my abs light will be on, and sometimes it will not be. When I start the truck, the light goes out when it does the self check(most of the time, sometimes it does stay lit). I back out into the street, and when I start going forward the light comes on. Some days, it wont come on at all, like nothing is wrong.I had a local garage check the code and he confirmed it was the front right sensor, the same side I had worked on with the outer axle seal......He said the sensors go bad sometimes, but it seems to be a coincidence to me. I drove the truck for probably two weeks after the seal replacement before the abs issue started, so I am not sure its related. I just went out, removed the allen head bolt that holds the sensor in place, and wiped it clean,The magnetic tip looked worn a bit. Is this normal? I cleaned it thoroughly, and reinstalled it. I know the previous owner just replaced the hub assembly three months before I bought the truck, so its not a bad hub, and the little slotted things that the abs sensor reads on the axle look nice and clean. My questions here are if an abs sensor is in fact going bad, would it be intermittent? Would it sometimes set off the light and sometimes not? Another question is where in heck does it unplug so I could replace it with a new one? The cable seems to go on forever, lol, it must unplug somewhere? The magnetic tip seems flush with the plastic housing that it is encased in, should it stick out more,to be closer to the slotted things on the axle, or is that the right way for it to be? Sorry to be so long winded, just want to give as much info as possible. Any ideas out there?? Thanks a ton for any input!!

Don't think the pickup should show any wear.

I sent you some info.

Thanks very much. I will look into it a bit more. Im not sure the end of the magnetic pickup was actually worn, but looked slightly scuffed. Could very well have happened when I was reinstalling the cv axle....Any ideas where there are used parts for the abs's on these things? From what I see, only sport-tracs use the same kind, and napa wants $150!!!

Thanks for the help! I ended up buying the whole outer hub unit, which includes the ABS sensor, for $110 at napa. They would have sold me just the cable for $150.........Duh, no brainer, 35 minutes later it was back together, with no more ABS light on dash! Thanks again?
