Hi all,

had my 99 SOHC for a year now. Just MOT'd and has developed a very intermittent metallic rattle knock from the engine bay. It happens when hot or cold and as far as I can tell at all rev ranges for a couple of seconds but can then disappear for a couple of minutes or even days before reappearing. I don't really want to waste time at ford and I have no experts that I know of in this area. I have read a little about the timing chains but I am not sure. My X has 70,000 on the clock and full Ford s.h. if this helps.

Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. my local Ford dealer were very good with the recent recall, knew exactly what to do and only took 5 minutes.

Newbie here - can you tell me what the recent recall was

Thanks

Keith

The recent recall is 5C983 - Speed Control Deactivation Switch.

As for the rattle check the heat shields on the exhaust pipe. Sometimes the welds go and then they rattle intermitantly.

Good call, two heat shields loose. Removed them and hasn't done it since. Saved me waiting at Ford while they all scratch their heads! They really hate Xs at my local dealer!
