On two occasions in the last two weeks i turned the key and everything was dead. On the first time I mover the shift lever a little in Park and panel light came on and the car started. The second time i moved the shift lever and nothing happened. i thought the battery must be dead but nothing had been left on. i turned the headlights on and went to the front of the car to see if the lights were on. They were. i got back in the car a turned the key and the car started. What is going on?

Either dirty/corroded battery clamps or a dodgy ignition switch.

Battery clamps is an easy, no cost thing.
Take the clamps off and tip boiled water over the clamps and terminals.

Reinstall using some product that someone living closer to you recommends.

put some baking soda in that hot water if you really want to clean battery terminals. I usually make a paste, glop it on and let it sit for a minute or until it stops bubbling then rinse.

I do that too but it's not necessary, the water alone will get copper shiny.
It surprised me.

Sounds like a Start Safety Switch issue.
