Intermittent wiper problem

Ok, so my intermittent wipers won't work properly. They turn on and move 2" up pause, 2'' up pause, 2" up pause. When they do reach the top of the window, they will begin the same slow return to the bottom. Both the low speed and high speed wipes work fine.

I've dismantled cleaned and reinstalled the multi-function switch and swapped the relays under the hood, that doesn't seem to help.

Any thoughts?

Was the spindle nut (to the arm) tightened?
Sounds like the motor is free-spinning.

HMmmm. I'll check it, but how could the wipers work on high and low, if the spindle nut were spinning?

In my case, it was the multifunction switch.
