Hi all!

Newbie here with a 2001 Explorer Sport 2dr 4WD stick-shift. Live in the suburbs of Seattle.

I picked up this Explorer from a friend who had bought it new and was going to scrap it due to age/neglect. Have spent the two years slowly fixing it up and it runs pretty good now! Work done includes: all fluids and filters replaced, shocks, end links, timing chain tensioners, valve cover gaskets (leaking/burning oil like crazy), body mount bushings (old ones were non-existent and banging), thermostat and housing, serpentine belt, liftgate struts, and tightening 8.8 pinion nut (had some play and was howling like crazy, quieter now).

Has timing chain rattle at startup if I don't start it for a couple days, even with new tensioners. Cranking WOT (clear flood mode) for about 10 seconds greatly reduces the rattle.

Upgrades include 31's (General Grabber ATx), front tow hooks, clutch interlock bypass, rear hitch receiver, shocks (KYB Gas-a-Just), Sport Trac leaf springs (~2" lift)

Next up: rebuild trac lock with carbon fiber clutches. While I'm in there, replacing wheel bearings, seals, and rear parking shoes (axle seal currently leaking)

I use this rig as a second vehicle around town and also to go out camping. Built a sleeping platform in the back for camping setup. Recently purchased a boat, so the Explorer has become my tow rig as well.
