is a aftermarket maf worth it

Granitelli makes all of them. Pro-M puts their own program on them and their logo. The electronics of the MAF sensor are customizable. Apten has dyno'ed and tuned cars with the Pro-M variant so that's what they recommend.

Thanks for pointing out my stupidity Billy177! I fixed it!

I agree, the mass air sensor upgrade is definitely a stage 2 upgrade. Which means you may not realize much benefit unless you have done other upgrades like exhaust, intake and computer chip. You can see the stock unit is a rather small and low performance unit. A high flow mass air like the Pro-M 70mm needs to be complimented with more fuel and timing by way of a chip. The other stage 2 upgrades would be the larger throttle body and headers. You can add these performance upgrades all at once or in stages. Let's face it, the V6 OHV needs all the help it can get. The Pro-M is definitely worth doing, it is just not the first thing you want to do. By the way, the Granitelli units are no longer made by Pro-M.

i have the sohc with intake exhaust and a chip what kind of gains can be expected

We do not have any dyno numbers on that one. The folks at Pro-M report an estimated 5-8hp gain. I have received positive feedback from customers reporting a noticable improvement. The gain from this unit is not huge. But it does help in the quest for more net horsepower and improved throttle response. We would recommend the 75mm Pro-M which is available in chrome or black. The electronic unit is custom calibrated for your mods. Here is picture of the back unit($224.95). We will have this one posted on our web site soon. Let me know if you have any questions.
