I understand that you should get an alignment done after you have installed a new component in the front suspension. I replaced the front struts in my 02 xlt 4wd, and I am thinking about replacing the rear ones too. If I wait to replace them will I have to have another alignment at that time?

just struts is not a very big deal. But with Independent on all four corners its a good idea to have it checked. Firestone offers lifetime alignment for the price of two alignments.. Really saves if you do all car work your self..

If you didn't disconnect anything but the struts, you could most likely get away with it.
Firestone probably has the best deal for alignments, though most shops won't charge for checking, only adjusting.

How old are your tires? If you have a newer set of $800 dollar tires on, a $75 alignment is probably worth it.

Our explorers use coil overs (all four) so it's ok to skip the alignment when pnly the shock absorber is replaced but it's always better to do it for peace of mind.

If it's a strut (mcpherson, etc) then an alignment is required.
