I'm new, mostly, to having an explorer. I had a '93 which I didn't have long and gave up for better gas mileage (civic). A year later, I buy a '95 explorer and am in love with it and could care less about the gas mileage. It's got 175k miles and feels good and strong and is super clean. It's an XLT. Now for my list of problems. I have a feeling, that something, not sure which problems, are associated with each other like a disconnected wire, specific fuse blown that I haven't yet been able to identify, etc. So far my list of problems are:
Rust on the rocker panel where the rear passenger door is (not one of the issues lol)
Won't shift into 2nd, just bypasses. Get up to 3-4k and then let off the gas and straight into 3rd.
Gauge cluster not illuminated when headlights are on
Subwoofer crackles like a loose wire or like it's wired backward
Center console leather needs reattached (not one of the issues)
Viper alarm remote needs replaced
When driving along on the highway, it has a very slight misfire feel, almost like maybe the TPS is bad or going bad.
Left front tire is needs replaced
Turn signals will randomly buzz instead of engage but this can be fixed by turning them off and back on

Ok, so those are the only things wrong with it that I've found so far. Here's more info on it that may or may not be helpful. (number 1, my apologies, I'm drunk right now and wouldn't be posting this but it's my best chance)
The 4wd works, I tested it on a gravel road. 2wd spun the rear a little, and 4wd it launched....twice. The x used to have a system in it, RF amp I can tell from the indention in the carpet on the back of the back seats, but no idea beyond that. Has a Viper 791x with remote start but can't test it since the remote is broken. It seems to shift better with a little load, 4wd or when I pulled my pop up camper to my apartment tonight. Tranny fluid appears dirty and I have an appt with a friend that owns a shop next week to do a flush, if that doesn't work, I'm replacing the EPC on the valve body and rebuilding the valve body (thanks glacier for the write up).
I've got a hitch lined up when I get the $ in for it. The underside of the bumper is overly rusted and I'm not comfortable with the ball on it.
I've got a quote open for 31" tires
The flat 4 wiring for the trailer could be replaced and the pins pulled out when I took the cap off.

Ok that's all I can think of at this point.
The point of my thread however, is that I need help fixing the illumination of the gauge cluster and I'm wondering if there's something common, that might be related to another issue, that is causing the problem.

Oh, lastly, the x sat for 2 months by the previous owner. He said as soon as it started "slipping" he stopped driving it. I'm guessing the TPS problem feel could be resolved by new gas. I already plan to clean the MAF next week, just cause I can and it's easy.

Welcome to my explorer. :D:thumbsup::D:thumbsup:
